A little island boy feels pushed aside when a new baby arrives — until one tiny hand teaches him what being a big brother means.

Mama had a happy secret. “Ahmed,” she smiled, “you’re going to be a big brother!”

Soon a tiny baby came home, wrapped in a soft white blanket. His name was Hussain.

Everyone wanted to hold the baby. “So sweet!” they said. Ahmed watched from the doorway.

Baby Hussain cried and cried, and Mama was always busy. Ahmed felt very small.

“Nobody needs me anymore,” Ahmed grumbled, hugging his knees. Even the kitten couldn’t cheer him up.

Then Mama held out her hand. “Come, Ahmed. Your brother has been waiting to meet you.”

Ahmed reached out one finger — and baby Hussain held it tight and stopped crying. Ahmed’s heart went warm.

After that, Ahmed became the best helper. He fetched soft cloths and hummed little songs.

He rocked the cradle ever so gently. And when Hussain smiled, he smiled at Ahmed first of all.

Ahmed showed him everything — his toy boat, the kitten, and the big blue sea outside.

“He’s lucky to have you,” said Mama. Ahmed felt proud, all the way to his toes.

That night Ahmed tucked a tiny blanket around his brother. “Goodnight, little Hussain,” he whispered.
