A little girl breaks something precious and hides it — and learns that the truth feels lighter than the secret.

In Hawwa’s house, Mama’s most treasured thing was a pretty blue vase of flowers on the table.

One afternoon, Hawwa chased her fluffy kitten round and round inside — even though Mama said to be gentle indoors.

CRASH! The vase wobbled, toppled, and broke into pieces on the floor. Hawwa froze.

Quick as a flash, she hid the broken bits behind a cushion. Only the kitten saw.

“Hawwa, have you seen my vase?” called Mama. Hawwa’s tummy twisted. “…No,” she whispered.

But the secret felt heavy. She couldn’t play. She couldn’t eat. The worry grew like a stone inside her.

That night she couldn’t sleep at all. The kitten nuzzled her cheek. Hawwa took a big, brave breath.

She carried the broken pieces to Mama. “I broke your vase,” she said, tears falling. “I’m sorry I hid it.”

Mama wrapped her in a big hug. “Thank you for telling me the truth. That matters far more than a vase.”

Together they gathered every piece and planted the flowers in a bright new pot.

And just like that, Hawwa felt light as a feather again. The truth was lighter than the secret had ever been.

She slept soundly that night, the flowers blooming on the sill and the kitten purring at her feet. Goodnight, Hawwa.
