A little island girl helps a baby sea turtle find his way home — and the sea says thank you.
On a tiny island where the sea sings all day, lived a curious girl named Mira.
One morning she found a tiny turtle alone in a rock pool. “I want to go home to the sea,” he whispered. His name was Velaa.
“Don’t worry, little one,” said Mira. “I’ll help you home.” She cupped Velaa gently in her hands.
But the waves were big, and Velaa was very small. So Mira waded into the warm, clear lagoon.
A flash of orange! A little clownfish peeked out. “The reef is this way!” he bubbled.
A giant manta ray glided by like a soft grey kite, and gave them a gentle ride across the water.
Splash! Splash! A pod of dolphins leapt and laughed, showing the way to the deep blue sea.
There, in the big blue, Velaa saw someone he knew. “Mama!” he cheered.
Velaa swam into his mama’s flippers. Mira waved goodbye, her heart full and warm.
That night, the whole sea began to glow — a million tiny blue stars in the water.
Velaa had come back to say thank you, swimming through the glowing waves. Mira laughed with joy.
Mira fell asleep to the song of the sea, a little shell from Velaa beside her. Goodnight, Mira. Goodnight, sea of stars.
