A girl promises to care for a little hen every single day — and learns that love means showing up, come rain or shine.

One morning, Mama gave Zahra a very special job — to care for their speckled hen, Kukulhu.

“Every day,” said Mama, “she needs food, fresh water, and a little love. Can you do that?”

“Yes! Every single day!” promised Zahra, hugging the soft, clucking hen.

On the first day, Zahra scattered the corn and filled the water. Kukulhu clucked happily.

But the next day it rained, and Zahra wanted to stay cosy inside. “Maybe just today off…”

Then she remembered Kukulhu, waiting hungry in the rain. “A promise is a promise!”

On went her raincoat, and out she splashed to feed her hen, who nuzzled her gratefully.

Day after day, sunny or rainy, Zahra never forgot. She was Kukulhu’s very best friend.

Then one morning — peep, peep, peep! A surprise! Kukulhu had three fluffy little chicks!

“You cared for me so well,” Kukulhu seemed to say. “Now come and meet my babies.”

Zahra beamed with pride, cuddling the tiny yellow chicks gently in her hands.

When we care for someone every day, our love grows — just like a little family.
